Two former Orientation Leaders have been selected to receive the President's Award for Outstanding University Service! Congratulations to Brett and Ashley! The awards are very much deserved for your dedication and service to Portland State. Our staff members, Bill and Hillary, will be joining Brett and Ashley at a luncheon that will be hosted in their honor.

I'm admitted....now what?

This is the time of year when students begin wondering what their next steps are for academic advising and registration for fall term classes. For Fall 2009 enrollment, PSU does not require a letter of intent nor a tuition deposit. We know you are attending PSU when you attend an Orientation: Advising and Registration Day.

ORIENTATION: ADVISING & REGISTRATION DAY
• Meet professional and faculty advisers to learn about your academic requirements
• Register for fall term classes
• Obtain free copies of the PSU Bulletin (course catalog) and the Student Handbook & Academic Planner
• Meet with current Portland State students and meet other new students
• Have your photo taken for your Portland State ID card
• Learn about campus services and set-up your PSU computer/e-mail account.

Dates and details for Orientation: Advising and Registration Days will be e-mailed to you the week of June 8 and mailed information will follow. The sessions will begin in July and run through September.

PRIOR TO ORIENTATION: ADVISING & REGISTRATION DAY
We encourage you to begin reviewing your academic requirements in preparation for your Advising and Registration Day. http://www.pdx.edu/advising/pre-orientation-advice-new-students.

Student of the Week: Brooke

My name is Brooke and I am a junior at Portland State. I am currently double majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology. I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. I have been to college in New York, Hollywood and Chicago. I have graduated from a small Theatre academy. I chose to come to Portland State for all the different and diverse opportunities that they offer. They also have a great Criminal Justice Program. Since coming to Portland State I have been involved in many different activities. I have been on the rowing team, the women’s rugby team; I am currently the president of Phi Sigma Sigma, and a member of the Rec Clubs Council. I work in the Campus Visits office and the Outdoor Program at Portland State.

PSU in Hawaii

Our staff just returned from a great trip to Hawaii to meet with prospective and admitted students and their families. Throughout the week, we met with students in their high schools, had a Reception on May 8 and held Orientation on May 9.

Kanani's recap:
"It was a very busy trip for me! Alot of flying and driving!! I got to talk to alot of great students and counselors from all the islands. I don't think I can eat anymore macadamia nuts!"

Hillary's recap:
"What a busy week! I loved meeting the students and their families. The high school visits and the Orientation were definitely the highlights of the trip! I can't wait to see the students on campus and to meet another round of new students next year."

Here are some pictures from our visit:
